The Cévennes Distillery
Our story
Master distillers since 1930
It was in 1930 that the Distillerie des Cévennes was founded, in the small village of Claret, in the heart of the sunny lands of the scrubland where the oxycedron juniper grows everywhere in the surrounding area, in a desire to perpetuate this tradition of oil distillation. typical cade of the region, and to allow us to still benefit today from its many virtues.
Its manufacturing method is thus transmitted from generation to generation, and evolves over time, since the Distillery now has a still allowing it to distill the wood with water vapor to extract the essential oil of cade wood, as well as a double distillation system to obtain fine cade oil, less thick and less aromatic than cade oil, but just as effective.
The Distillerie des Cévennes is today the only remaining cade oil distillery in Europe. Guarantor of this centuries-old tradition, Joël Descan is now the master distiller.
The team
We work in a small team, and all our products are handcrafted, with delicacy and passion, in our workshop.
Joël, a farmer and winemaker by profession, is a lover of his native country with a singing accent, who was keen to keep the tradition of cade wood distillation alive. Valérie, his partner, runs this small family business with him. It was she who had the idea of creating the Cadessence range, in order to revalue the use of cade in skincare products for sensitive skin.
Romain, a southerner at heart and a great connoisseur of the Languedoc scrubland, has been responsible for the production of cade oil for 5 years. Loris, a young chemist, designs the formulas for our cosmetic products and makes them in our workshop. He is the one who makes the balms, oils and soaps, in an artisanal way and with his timeless joie de vivre.
The Cadessence range
Cadessence was born from the desire to offer the most sensitive skin a range of care that suits them, by combining the virtues of cade oil with those of other medicinal plants, to create products capable of responding gently and effectively to certain skin conditions, such as eczema and psoriasis.
The idea being to offer products that are respectful of the skin as well as the environment, we carefully choose the ingredients that compose them, so that they best respond to this double problem. This is why our products are formulated as much as possible with natural ingredients and from sustainable sources.
We do not test on animals, and our soaps are certified palm oil free and cold saponified, respecting traditional methods.
